Nicholas Fitton

Assistant Principal Flute and Piccolo

Massachusetts native, Nicholas Fitton joined the Omaha Symphony as Assistant Principal Flute & Piccolo at the start of the 2024-2025 season. Before moving to Omaha, he enjoyed a full-time freelancing career performing regularly with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Florida Orchestra, the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, The Washington Chamber Orchestra, and the College Light Opera Company.

Nicholas began his collegiate training in 2007 at the Eastman School of Music with Bonita Boyd. In 2009, he won the piccolo chair in the groundbreaking YouTube Symphony Orchestra, the first-ever online collaborative orchestra, and under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas performed a sold-out concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall. A graduate of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, his primary studies were with internationally acclaimed soloist Marina Piccinini (B.M. 2015) and piccoloist of The Philadelphia Orchestra, Erica Peel (M.M. 2021). Other influential teachers include Sharon Sparrow, Brook Ferguson, Laurie Sokoloff, Judy Grant, Doriot Dwyer, and Wayne Crebo.

A passionate teacher, Nicholas maintains a private studio of in-person and online students. He has been a guest teaching artist at Eastern Kentucky University, the Brookline Music School, and the Boston Flute Academy. Nicholas performs on an 18k gold Verne Q. Powell flute.
