One of the most epic voices in Omaha goes off the air this week

Otis Twelve 1000w

Whether you recognize his voice from his 40-year radio hosting career or from one of our preconcert announcements, Otis Twelve’s booming voice is not one to be easily forgotten.

He spent over a decade at Z-92 and later worked at KFAB, CD105.9 and KKAR before being voted into the Nebraska Radio Personalities Hall of Fame. This week, Otis Twelve is making his final broadcasts as the host of KVNO’s Morning Classics, a show he’s spearheaded since 2006. He’ll be retiring at the end of the week.

Otis has lent his voice and charisma to many Omaha Symphony proceedings, going all the way back to 1991 and 1992 when he was a featured performer at our Christmas concerts, so we thought it would be most appropriate to lend him a special tribute. On September 27, a group of musicians from our orchestra snuck into KVNO’s studio to surprise Otis with a live performance of his favorite piece, Ride of the Valkyries.

While this week is Otis’ last at KVNO, it’s also the station’s annual Fall Fund Drive. Visit kvno.org to find out how you can support KVNO’s mission and help preserve Otis’ legacy for years to come!

Thanks for all your years serving our Omaha community, Otis Twelve!
